I really LOVE to make crafts, and one of my favourites is making jewelry. Keeping with the whole environmentally conscious theme, I raided my house for old jewelry that I could make new again. I took pieces that were once earrings and added them to new chains, flipped and repurposed pendants, and shortened necklaces to become statement pieces. They were really easy to make, just need some old jewelry and chains, some pliers and your imagination.
Why not just buy new jewelry, rather than going to all the hassle of upscaling old stuff?
- Manufacturing jewelry has high environmental costs (unless handmade)
- Fossil fuels are used in order to ship and distribute the product (unless locally made)
- Consuming more products is damaging to the Earth so why not use whats already been made and would have been thrown out at some point
This piece was made from one of my mothers old necklaces.
This piece was an old necklace I was given by my aunt. I simply turned it around so the all gold side was showing and it had a really cute eye pendant that used to be where the clasp was. I moved it to the front and now it is one of my favourite necklaces and I wear it all the time again.
This pendant I made a few years back. I was in Arizona at a flea market and found this beautiful stone. I found an old chain and put them together; VOILA!
This was made from two old pairs of earrings I never wear anymore. Put them on an old chain and this dream-catcher-esque necklace was born.
As you probably noticed, these last two look quite similar. Before, they were two long necklaces that were suppose to be worn together. I just shortened both of them to be statement necklaces. (What I really like about this one is that they are not too bulky, so you can dress them up or down).
